Editorial Policy
ChildCareGrant aims to provide practical, accurate, plain-language information about child care assistance programs. This page explains the sources we rely on, how we try to keep information accurate, and what to do if you believe something is wrong.
Source Standards
When researching a guide or article, we prioritize:
- Official state agency websites
- Federal government sources
- Official program portals (which are not always on a .gov domain, but are operated by or for the administering agency)
- Administrative rules and regulations, where relevant
- Official forms and program documentation
We do not rely on unofficial blogs, forums, or other secondhand sources for eligibility rules, income limits, or application procedures.
How Information Is Verified
- State-specific claims are checked against the official sources listed above
- Eligibility and process details are reviewed in the context of the specific program and state they describe
- Guides and articles display a Last Verified date so you can see how current the page is
- When rules differ by state, we avoid presenting one state's rules as if they applied everywhere
Updates and Maintenance
Program rules, income limits, and application processes can change. We update content when we identify a change in official rules or when outdated information is brought to our attention. We do not currently commit to a fixed update schedule for every page.
Because time-sensitive details such as income limits and procedures can change between updates, always verify current rules with the official agency before acting on anything time-sensitive.
Corrections
If we identify an error, we aim to correct it. If you believe something on the site is outdated or incorrect, please let us know through our Contact page — include the page and the specific detail you're questioning so we can look into it.
When we make a correction, we prioritize accuracy over preserving the original wording of a page.
Use of Tools and Calculators
- Our calculators are informational tools, not an application or an official determination
- Results are estimates unless a page explicitly states otherwise
- Calculators do not determine official eligibility
- Official agencies make the final decisions on eligibility and benefit amounts
Independence
ChildCareGrant is independent. We are not affiliated with any federal or state government agency, and no government agency reviews, approves, or controls our editorial content.
